JAKARTA -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk and the labor union have officially reached an agreement on the Collective Labor Agreement (CLA) after going through a series of lengthy negotiations. The agreement reaffirms a shared commitment to maintaining employee welfare while ensuring the sustainability and growth of the company.
The CLA agreement was reached during the fourth round of negotiations held at the PT TIMAH Board of Commissioners Meeting Room at the Jakarta Representative Office on Saturday (May 9, 2026).
The series of CLA negotiations lasted quite a long time. The first negotiation began in April 2025. The second round was held on April 22, 2026, but did not produce an agreement. At the end of April 2026, the third round of negotiations was again conducted at PT TIMAH Headquarters in Pangkalpinang, but a final agreement had still not been reached despite in-depth discussions on various points.
It was only during the fourth round of negotiations in Jakarta that management and the labor union were able to align their views.
The lengthy negotiation process reflected the seriousness of both parties in fighting for shared interests. Both management and the labor union had the same objective: safeguarding employee welfare while supporting the sustainability of the company. The differences that emerged were mainly related to differing perspectives in formulating the best agreement.
The management negotiation team was led by PT TIMAH Director of Human Resources Ratih Mayasari, while the labor union negotiation team was led by Riki Febriansyah as Chairman of IKT.
PT TIMAH Director of Human Resources Ratih Mayasari stated that the CLA agreement was an achievement worthy of appreciation by all parties.
"The CLA discussion process was not easy and lasted for nearly a year due to differing viewpoints. However, through that process, we learned that every issue can be resolved properly when all parties share the same spirit, namely safeguarding the company's sustainability and the common good," Ratih said.
According to her, the agreement on the CLA symbolizes that communication, dialogue, and mutual understanding remain the best ways to build healthy industrial relations.
Ratih hopes that the agreed CLA will not merely become a formal document, but will truly serve as a shared guideline in building a healthy, productive, and collaborative work culture.
"Going forward, the relationship between management and the labor union must become even stronger as one unified entity with the same goal, namely to bring PT TIMAH into becoming a company that continues to grow, remain healthy, and provide benefits to the nation and all of its employees," she said.
She emphasized that company sustainability and employee welfare are two closely interconnected matters.
"The sustainability of the company will ultimately determine the sustainability of employee welfare. On the other hand, employee welfare and productivity are the company's main strengths in continuing to grow," she added.
She further stated that the CLA should serve as a reminder that management and employees are not opposing parties, but rather part of one ecosystem that depends on each other. When the company progresses, welfare will also grow. And when all company personnel maintain productivity, discipline, and solidarity, the company will also have the resilience to face future industry challenges.
"Quoting the thoughts of Jurgen Habermas, the purpose of communication is not to defeat one another, but to build mutual understanding. Hopefully, this CLA will become a new spirit showing that management and the labor union are one unified entity working together to safeguard the future of PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk," she said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Labor Union Negotiation Team Riki Febriansyah stated that from the beginning, his party had conducted an in-depth review of the previous CLA. Several points were considered to still require improvement in order to better support employee welfare without neglecting the company's sustainability.
"Since the start of the CLA negotiations, we have remained focused on matters directly related to employee welfare, while also considering the company's sustainability and long-term success," Riki said.
He acknowledged that several proposals had not been fully accommodated. Nevertheless, the achieved results were considered a step forward that reflected the spirit of togetherness.
Riki also expressed appreciation to all members of the negotiation teams, both from management and the labor union, who had devoted their time, energy, and thoughts until the negotiation process could be completed.
"Hopefully, everything agreed upon in this CLA can be implemented properly in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, while also improving employee welfare and maintaining the sustainability and success of the company that we all cherish," he said.
A similar sentiment was conveyed by Hardiyanto, a member of the labor union negotiation team who also represented IKT Belitung Region. According to him, from the beginning the negotiation team had evaluated the previous CLA, including several articles that were considered potentially open to multiple interpretations.
"As part of the negotiation team, we carried the mandate to fight for employee welfare. Alhamdulillah, although the negotiation process was quite intense and lasted through four stages, the results achieved today reflect the solidity and synergy between management and the labor union for the welfare of employees and the sustainability of the company," he said.
This CLA agreement is expected to become a new foundation for harmonious industrial relations within PT TIMAH while also strengthening the company's steps in facing future business challenges. (*)
