Improving Employee Quality of Life, PT TIMAH Holds Health Education Program with PT Bakti Timah 18 April 2026 SHARE PANGKALPINANG -- In an effort to enhance employees' understanding of the importance of maintaining good health, PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk organized a health education program in collaboration with PT Bakti Timah. The event was held at Graha Timah on Friday (April 17, 2026). The health education session was attended by PT TIMAH employees from various work units and featured a speaker, Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Tohari, Sp.PD, who delivered a presentation on "Tips for Maintaining Stomach Health Amid Busy Work Schedules." This program is part of PT TIMAH's commitment to creating a healthy and productive work environment, as well as an effort to improve the overall health quality of its employees. VP Business Development & Marketing of PT Bakti Timah, Erwina Agustin, stated that the health education initiative aims to raise employee awareness about the importance of maintaining health, particularly regarding gastric disorders, which are often underestimated. According to her, stomach-related health issues are among the most common complaints in the community, including in the Bangka Belitung region. Therefore, understanding the causes, prevention, and treatment of these conditions is essential. "At PT Bakti Timah Medika, we provide internal medicine services along with supporting facilities for consultations and further examinations. We are committed to delivering comprehensive and high-quality healthcare services for both employees and the community," said Erwina. Meanwhile, Dr. Tohari, Sp.PD, explained in his presentation that common gastric disorders include Dyspepsia Syndrome and GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). GERD is a condition in which stomach contents flow back into the esophagus and even the respiratory tract, causing disruptive symptoms that can reduce a person's quality of life. "Common symptoms of GERD include heartburn, a burning sensation in the chest, regurgitation with a sour or bitter taste in the mouth, chest pain, and a dry throat. These symptoms can range from mild to severe and significantly affect daily activities," explained Dr. Tohari. He noted several contributing factors to GERD, including smoking habits, obesity, alcohol consumption, stress or anxiety, and unhealthy eating patterns such as consuming spicy, acidic, chocolate-based, high-fat foods, coffee, and carbonated beverages. Furthermore, Dr. Tohari emphasized the importance of recognizing warning signs of gastric disorders, such as difficulty swallowing, persistent coughing, bleeding, and pain when swallowing. If these symptoms occur, individuals are advised to seek medical attention immediately. For management, he stressed the importance of lifestyle changes, such as weight loss for those who are obese, avoiding trigger foods and beverages, not eating at least three hours before bedtime, and avoiding smoking and alcohol. For individuals with gastric issues who still wish to consume coffee, Dr. Tohari offered several tips, including not drinking coffee on an empty stomach, avoiding coffee consumption at night, choosing coffee types that are more stomach-friendly, and limiting intake to no more than one cup per day.
