On 3 September 2026, a symbolic topping-out ceremony was held at the new headquarters of Katowice prosecution units. The ceremony marked the achievement of the building's highest structural point. Mostostal Warszawa is the General Contractor for the project.
- Today's event is a source of great satisfaction for us, but above all, it marks another important milestone on the way to completing a project that will serve the justice system and the residents of Katowice. The works are progressing smoothly and in line with the agreed schedule - said Jorge Calabuig Ferre, President of Mostostal Warszawa, during the ceremony.
The topping-out ceremony brought together representatives of the investor, contractor, design team and city authorities. Reaching the highest structural point is one of the key milestones in the construction process. It marks the completion of the main structural works and the transition to the next stages, including finishing and installation works.
The new headquarters of Katowice prosecution units will become one of the distinctive buildings in this part of the city. Designed by Ostrowscy Architekci Biuro Projektowe, the six-storey building will be approximately 200 metres long. Its distinctive form is inspired by the legal paragraph symbol, while the colour scheme of the façade draws inspiration from the colours of a prosecutor's robe.
One complex for multiple prosecution units
The new facility will accommodate the main prosecution units operating in Katowice. The complex will house, among others, the Regional Prosecutor's Office and District Prosecutor's Office in Katowice, four District Prosecutor's Offices, the Delegated European Prosecutor's Office at the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Katowice, as well as the Silesian Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office.
Bringing these units together in one modern facility will provide appropriate working conditions for the prosecution authorities and facilitate cooperation between the individual units.
A large-scale project
Construction of the project at Gliwicka Street in Katowice began in January 2025. The initial phase included preparatory and earthworks, excavation protection and ground reinforcement using DSM columns. The following months saw rapid progress in the construction works, and in September 2026 the building reached its target structural height.
The scale of the project is reflected in the figures. The building will have a total volume of 182,205.80 m³ and a total usable floor area of 39,320.09 m². Approximately 36,000 m³ of concrete and 2,900 tonnes of reinforcement steel have been used in the construction of the structure. The building will also feature approximately 1,800 windows.
The project involves more than just the construction of the prosecution headquarters. It also includes a car park for approximately 600 vehicles, an internal road network and publicly accessible parkland covering around 40% of the site. The investment will therefore not only improve the operating conditions of public institutions, but also contribute to the development of this part of Katowice.
The value of the contract being delivered by Mostostal Warszawa is PLN 314.6 million gross. Completion of the project is scheduled for mid-2028.
