Popular YouTube channel "Autostrady Polska" has published a feature on the construction of the S19 Rzeszów Południe-Babica expressway section, being delivered by the consortium of Mostostal Warszawa and ACCIONA. It is one of the most demanding and technologically advanced road infrastructure projects currently underway in Poland, due to the construction of a tunnel over 2 km long, challenging terrain and the use of TBM technology.
With more than 80,000 subscribers, "Autostrady Polska" specializes in Polish infrastructure. The channel showcases the scale of major projects, the technical solutions being used and the behind-the-scenes aspects of road construction.
The project from the contractors' perspective
In the latest feature, the author takes an in-depth look at the S19 Rzeszów Południe-Babica project. Contract Manager Krzysztof Michalak and Tunnel Works Manager Piotr Kołodziejczyk discuss the details of the contract, the challenges involved in tunnel construction, tunnelling technology and the organization of the team's work.

The camera goes inside Karpatka
One of the most interesting parts of the feature is the opportunity to look inside the Karpatka TBM. The camera shows the machine from the inside, explains how it operates and presents the work of the team responsible for tunnel excavation.
Karpatka is approximately 114 metres long, 15 metres wide and weighs around 4,400 tonnes. Its task is to excavate the tunnel beneath Grochowiczna Hill. The feature allows viewers to see this enormous machine not only from the outside, but also from the perspective of its day-to-day operation.
Over 10 km of road and more than 2 km of tunnel
The S19 Rzeszów Południe-Babica project includes the construction of approximately 10.3 km of expressway. In addition to a twin-bore tunnel more than 2 km long, the project includes six viaducts, two overpasses and associated infrastructure. The contract is worth more than PLN 3 billion gross.
