ENGIE invests BRL 5 million in three innovation projects for solar power plants 04 May 2026 Compartilhe ENGIE Brasil has signed the first three contracts selected through the InovaSolar Challenge , a public call aimed at financing innovation projects focused on solutions for solar power plants. Together, the initiatives represent an investment of BRL 5 million . By the end of this year, new contracts are expected to be signed, covering projects from different regions of the country, with a particular focus on the North, Northeast, and Central-West regions. A total of 141 proposals were submitted. Of these, 67 projects advanced to the detailed evaluation stage and 28 were selected to present at the Pitch Day . In the final outcome, 13 proposals were chosen to become part of ENGIE Brasil Energia's Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) project portfolio, implemented under the ANEEL RD&I Program . The three contracts now signed are part of this group. The call involved Science and Technology Institutes (STIs), universities, startups, technology-based companies, and consulting firms , all based in Brazil. The selected initiatives include projects from the states of Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Paraíba, Paraná, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, and Santa Catarina . Contracted projects StringVision Proposed by NEPEN - the Center for Studies and Research of the North and Northeast , in partnership with Instituto Atlântico (CE) , the project aims to develop and validate, within 12 months , a computer vision system for real-time detection of failures in solar string boxes -electrical boxes that gather and protect the connections of multiple photovoltaic panels before transmitting energy to the inverter. The solution seeks greater accuracy compared to current methods, enabling more efficient field operations and increased operational reliability. The initiative will be tested at the Floresta Photovoltaic Complex , located in Areia Branca (RN) . Smart Tracker The Lactec Research Center (PR) has been contracted to develop, over 18 months , a computational tool focused on predicting damage and analyzing the structural behavior of photovoltaic trackers -mechanical structures that move solar panels throughout the day to follow the sun's path and maximize energy generation. The project will use simulations and structural monitoring at an ENGIE Brasil power plant yet to be defined. SolarCleanAI - Intelligent Cleaning with Climate Data and Artificial Intelligence Developed by startup The Insight (SC) , the project has a six-month timeline and aims to create and validate an intelligent platform to optimize the planning of photovoltaic module cleaning using climate data and artificial intelligence. The solution will be tested at the Lar do Sol Solar Complex , located in Pirapora (MG) . "The InovaSolar call focused on operational efficiency and increasing energy generation from solar parks in Brazil, prioritizing original and innovative solutions with a high level of technological maturity. Applicability of results in the short term and contribution to regional development were also adopted as prioritization criteria," explains Mário Wilson Cusatis , Manager of Performance Management and Innovation at ENGIE.
