Jakarta, September 3, 2025 - PT Bukit Asam Tbk is ready to move forward with the commercialization of low-calorie coal downstream products, namely potassium humate, which will be marketed under the BA Grow trademark. This step is part of the company's commitment to supporting food self-sufficiency and industrial down streaming in Indonesia. Potassium humate is a natural organic fertilizer derived from potassium humate salt, a complex compound extracted from lignite, or low-calorie coal. This product functions as a soil conditioner and a source of organic potassium, and is highly effective in improving soil fertility, nutrient absorption efficiency, and increasing plant resistance and productivity. The development of potassium humate began with Prof. Ferian Anggara, a lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), and his research team, who had long been interested in the development of humic compounds. Through a cross-faculty research team, Gamahumat was born, a humic product proven to improve fertilization efficiency, improve soil quality, and promote more sustainable agricultural yields. This success is now being expanded through the downstream processing of coal into Potassium Humate, thereby adding value to local resources while strengthening national food security. Director of Downstreaming and Product Diversification Turino Yulianto emphasized PTBA's commitment to continuing business development. Potassium humate is one form of coal downstreaming carried out by PTBA to support the Asta Cita President of the Republic of Indonesia, which focuses on food self-sufficiency, industrial down streaming, and community welfare. "Potassium humate is a proof of our dedication to the country to provide uninterrupted energy. We are also ready to commercialize this potassium humate under the BA Grow product brand," he explained. BA Grow, which is ready to be commercialized by PTBA, comes in solid and liquid forms. This product also meets the humate compound standards in accordance with Minister of Agriculture Decree Number 261/KPTS/SR.310/M/4/2019. Prof. Ferian Anggara revealed that potassium humate is a soil conditioner. Therefore, its use must still be accompanied by other fertilizers to provide the elements that are still needed by plants. "So this is not a substitute for fertilizer, but it is a soil conditioner. Once the soil has been conditioned, the use of fertilizer can be reduced. So its function is to reduce the use of fertilizer," said Prof. Ferian. In a separate interview, Hasan Asnawi, a farmer from the Bimomartani Farmers' Group, where the demonstration plot is located, revealed that the use of potassium humate has brought significant changes to crop yields. "The use of potassium humate has been proven to increase soil fertility and crop yields, while reducing dependence on urea and NPK fertilizers," explained Asnawi. He also hopes that BA Grow can be used by all farmers in Indonesia soon, because "the results are indeed different, and the rice tastes better too," he added.
