ENGIE Brasil Energia begins commercial operations on the first stretch of the Asa Branca Transmission System in Bahia 26 November 2025 Compartilhe ENGIE Brasil Energia announces the beginning of commercial operations along the first stretch of the Asa Branca Transmission System situated in the central-southern region of the state of Bahia. With a length of 334 kilometers, this section goes into operation as from 25 November linking the Northeast and Southeast regions of Brazil and permitting the offtake of energy from renewable sources. Work on the stretch between Morro do Chapéu II and Poções III began in August 2024 and involved the installation of a 500 kV transmission line traversing 19 municipal districts in the state as well as the expansion of two associated substations. ENGIE successfully bid for the Asa Branca project at the National Electric Energy Agency's (ANEEL) Transmission Auction of 2023, a project involving the construction of approximately 1,000 kilometers of transmission line in the states of Bahia, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. Asa Branca will absorb investments worth R$ 2.67 billion and create about 4 thousand direct jobs in the region. "Progress of work on Asa Branca represents an important landmark event in the expansion of the domestic electric power infrastructure. By linking the Northeast and Southeast regions, the project facilitates the offtake of energy, reduces the risk of oscillation or interruption in supplies and contributes directly to the diversification of the electric energy matrix. ENGIE has been operating consistently in the Brazilian energy transition with projects which incorporate innovation, sustainability, and operational security, bringing long-lasting benefits for society as a whole", points out Eduardo Sattamini, Chief Executive Officer of ENGIE Brasil Energia. To comply with the schedule for construction work, ENGIE Brasil Energia has developed a robust plan of execution, ensuring progress in record time. In June, Ibama, the Brazilian environmental protection agency ( Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis) issued a preliminary license for the Poções III, Medeiros Neto II, João Neiva II, and Viana II sections and their respective substations. Approximately, a further 666 kilometers of transmission line are currently being implemented with a maximum deadline for entry into full commercial operations integrating the national grid of March 2029. The concession period for the public transmission service, which includes the licensing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the facilities, will be 30 years, starting from the signing of the concession agreement in September 2023. Expansion in the transmission segment The Company's operations in the electric power transmission segment continues to expand, strengthening the integration of renewable generation through the National Interconnected System - SIN ( Sistema Interligado Nacional ). With this new commissioning, ENGIE Brasil Energia now operates more than 3,200 kilometers of transmission line in different regions of the country. Among the projects in operation are the transmission lines of Gralha Azul (Paraná), with 909 kilometers; Novo Estado (Tocantins and Pará), with 1,800 kilometers; Gavião Real (Pará), which includes an associated substation; and the brownfield section of Graúna (Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo) with 162 kilometers. Currently, the Company has more than 1,300 kilometers in various stages of implementation, of these some 732 kilometers of the Graúna transmission system and approximately 666 kilometers, the Asa Branca project.
