Moscow, January 29, 2026 - The project on Turbines No. 6 and No. 7 modernization at Sredneuralskaya GRES, implemented in 2024-2025, has been granted a positive conclusion on its compliance with the climate project criteria approved by Order No. 248 of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation dated May 11, 2022. The project was validated by Kept Verification LLC.
Turbines No. 6 and 7 modernization at Sredneuralskaya GRES of PJSC EL5-Energo has resulted in increasing energy efficiency of the equipment via reducing the live steam specific consumption by the steam turbines for power generation, thus cutting down fossil fuel consumption by the steam boilers, thereby decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. The climate project claims an average reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 63,000 tons of CO2 per year and 695,000 tons of CO2 within a 10-year credit period. The company developed the climate project documentation in accordance with Federal Law No. 296-FZ On Limiting Greenhouse Gas Emissions dated July 2, 2021 and the national standardization system documentation related to limiting greenhouse gas emissions.
The project's classification as a climate one will prompt its registration in the National Carbon Units Registry making it the company's second project available on the carbon unit market. Earlier, in April 2024, PJSC EL5-Energo registered the first Russian climate project using renewable energy sources, ensuring reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through "green" electricity generation - the Azov Wind Farm project.
