Breaking STEM Barriers: ISA Launches Renewable Energy School to Train Girls from Choco

The initiative will benefit 15 girls between 12 and 15 years old from Quibdo, in partnership with the Fundacion Nuevo Amanecer ESAL. 25 volunteers from ISA, INTERCOLOMBIA, TRANSELCA, and Inteia will provide training in solar energy for eight weeks, promoting female inclusion in traditionally male-dominated sectors. The program seeks to inspire scientific and technological vocations in territories with limited access to educational opportunities, as part of ISA's commitment to the energy transition and social development. ISA launches the "Renewable Energy School" , an innovative corporate volunteering initiative designed to train and empower girls from territories with low access to educational opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) areas. This proposal, developed in partnership with the Fundacion Nuevo Amanecer ESAL, seeks to inspire scientific vocations in 15 girls between 12 and 15 years old, residing in Quibdo, Choco, through practical learning about renewable energies. The training will be given by 25 expert volunteers who will share their knowledge and passion for energy transition. The content, created entirely by the employees of ISA's companies, ranges from an introduction to solar energy and its applications, to physical fundamentals such as the photoelectric effect, design and installation of photovoltaic systems, and programming. The Renewable Energy School is projected as a replicable model that aspires to expand to new territories of the country, contributing to closing gaps in STEM education and to female empowerment in the energy sector. We firmly believe that, in order to achieve an effective transformation of the energy system towards a more sustainable model, it is essential to train specialized human talent from an early age," declared Jorge Andres Carrillo, CEO of ISA. The decision to execute this initiative with students from Choco responds to a commitment to territorial equity and educational inclusion because, despite the cultural richness and biodiversity of the department, it historically faces significant challenges in accessing training opportunities in STEM areas. About ISA Volunteering The volunteer program of ISA and its companies has consolidated a collaborative network that allows employees to generate value in the territories, promoting the transfer of knowledge to vulnerable communities. Since its creation between 2021 and 2024, it has developed more than 40 initiatives directly benefiting approximately 3,000 people in 21 municipalities of Colombia, thanks to the commitment of more than 800 volunteers who have dedicated approximately 3,300 work hours and 5,000 personal hours to social and environmental development.
