Sasha Jacob is the Chairman & CEO of Jacob Capital Management Inc. a merchant bank focused on the renewable power and infrastructure sectors. Sasha brings over 20 years of experience in the power sector, including founding and leading the power and infrastructure practice at a leading Canadian investment bank, as well as several years in senior political positions with the Ontario Minister of Energy. He was the first investment banker to focus on renewable energy in Canada and has managed over 100 transactions in the renewable sector valued at more than $8 billion. Sasha was recognized by Institutional Investor as one of the “5 Most Influential Emerging Players in Renewable Energy†globally.
Sasha holds a BA from Bishop’s University, MBA from Sir Wilfrid Laurier University and GP LLM from the University of Toronto. He was the recipient of the Laurier MBA Alumni 2009 Outstanding Executive Leadership Award and the Bishop’s University Top 10 After 10. Mr. Jacob has served on the Boards of several charitable organizations including as Vice Chair of World Wildlife Fund (WWF Canada), Director of Plan International Canada, Past Chair of the Board of Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO Maple Leaf) and current Chair of the Board of Nature United (The Nature Conservancy in Canada).

Speaker 1: I was a long time investment banker. I was actually the 1st investment banker in Canada focused on renewable energy and clean technology. Speaker 1: That was beginning about 2000, Speaker 1: late 2000, early 2001. Speaker 1: So Speaker 1: I've been an investment banker for quite a long time. Speaker 1: Ran a full service investment dealer, which had sales, trading, investment banking and equity research Speaker 1: that focused on renewables, clean tech, especially metals, battery metals, Speaker 1: and some conventional infrastructure Speaker 1: as well. Speaker 1: And then more recently have been more of a principal investor, so a direct investor Speaker 1: in companies, mostly in the same sector as renewable energy mostly. Speaker 1: I co-founded Speaker 1: a company that was called South Asia energy management systems, Speaker 1: which became Speaker 1: the largest hydro company in Sri Lanka. So we built, I think it was 13, 14 Speaker 1: hydro sites, Speaker 1: employed a lot of people, invested a lot of capital. We brought in about $100 million into the country and built Speaker 1: a very successful company that then became a large hydro developer in Uganda as well. So taking all the talent that we built in Sri Lanka and developing new projects Speaker 1: in Uganda. Speaker 1: So we've got a long track record Speaker 1: of operating in Sri Lanka and I should point out that most of that investment was actually made before Speaker 1: the domestic conflict, Speaker 1: the civil war that was there for many, many years before it was concluded.
