PANGKALPINANG -- World Environment Day serves as an important reminder that environmental sustainability must be an integral part of industrial activities. PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues to strengthen its commitment to environmental management through various ecosystem protection programs, land rehabilitation initiatives, wildlife conservation efforts, and the utilization of more environmentally friendly energy sources.

As a mining company operating across multiple regions, PT TIMAH reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that operational activities are carried out in harmony with environmental preservation and biodiversity protection through the implementation of Good Mining Practices.

In conducting its operations, the company integrates environmental management into its business model through various policies focused on risk identification, impact mitigation, and pollution prevention.

One of the company's key initiatives is the implementation of sustainable post-mining reclamation and land rehabilitation programs. These reclamation efforts are not limited to revegetation activities but also aim to create economic and social value by promoting the productive use of reclaimed land for local communities.

Several reclamation sites have even evolved into environmental education centers, including Kampoeng Reklamasi Air Jangkang in Bangka Regency and Kampong Reklamasi Selinsing in East Belitung Regency.

In addition, the company has utilized former mining areas to support productive community activities, such as freshwater fish farming in rehabilitated mining sites.

"Business sustainability must go hand in hand with environmental preservation efforts. Therefore, the company continues to strengthen various environmental management, reclamation, conservation, and biodiversity protection programs as part of its commitment to sustainable environmental stewardship," said Anggi Siahaan, Department Head of Corporate Communication at PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk.

In the area of conservation, PT TIMAH continues to enhance the protection of flora and fauna within its operational areas. Since 2018, the company has collaborated with the Alobi Foundation Wildlife Rescue Center (PPS Alobi Foundation) to conduct wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and release programs involving species such as Olive Ridley sea turtles, softshell turtles, white-cheeked turtles, slow lorises, Ayam Jembang birds, tarsiers, pangolins, and other wildlife species. From 2019 through 2025, a total of 3,169 animals have been successfully released back into their natural habitats.

Conservation efforts are also carried out through routine biodiversity monitoring within operational areas, including observations of marine biota, plankton, and mangrove ecosystems as part of environmental quality assessments.

PT TIMAH also continues to expand coastal ecosystem rehabilitation programs through the development of coral gardens and mangrove restoration initiatives as part of its efforts to maintain marine ecosystem balance.

"Environmental management is not only about minimizing operational impacts, but also about restoring the ecological and social functions of managed areas through reclamation and rehabilitation programs that can generate economic benefits for local communities," Anggi added.

Beyond environmental rehabilitation, the company is also strengthening its commitment to energy transition and energy efficiency initiatives in support of decarbonization targets.

Currently, approximately 60.1 percent of the company's operational energy consumption is supplied by B35/B40 biodiesel as its primary energy source. In addition, the company utilizes energy generated from on-grid Solar PV systems installed at Kampoeng Reklamasi Air Jangkang in Bangka, Kampong Reklamasi Selinsing in East Belitung, and at one of its subsidiaries, PT Timah Industri, located in Cilegon.

Throughout 2025, PT TIMAH recorded a reduction in energy consumption of 68,763 gigajoules through various operational efficiency programs, optimization of production equipment, and the implementation of energy management systems. All energy management activities are carried out in accordance with ISO 50001 international standards and relevant government regulations on energy conservation.

Through these various environmental management initiatives, PT TIMAH remains committed to implementing responsible mining practices while maintaining a balance between business operations, environmental preservation, and community well-being. (*)
