PT TIMAH Enhances Employees' Health Awareness Through Metabolic Syndrome Education to Support Workplace Productivity 08 June 2026 SHARE PANGKALPINANG -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk continues to strengthen its commitment to improving employee health through various health education programs. One of these initiatives was a health webinar themed "Understanding Metabolic Syndrome, Improving Productivity." The webinar featured internal medicine specialist Dr. Hamka Gunawan M., SpPD, FINASIM, and nutritionist Linda Eratni Elik, S.Gz as speakers. Held virtually on Monday (June 8, 2026), the event was attended by PT TIMAH employees across its operational areas. The webinar aimed to enhance employees' health knowledge while encouraging the adoption of healthy lifestyle practices to support productivity and overall quality of life. Health is a critical factor that influences workplace productivity. Therefore, the Company continues to improve employees' understanding of various health risks and diseases that can be prevented through early intervention. Dr. Hamka Gunawan M., SpPD, FINASIM, an internal medicine specialist from Siloam Hospital, explained that metabolic syndrome is not a single disease but rather a cluster of health conditions that occur simultaneously. "Metabolic syndrome is often referred to as a ticking time bomb because it can significantly increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes if left untreated," Dr. Hamka explained. According to him, the condition deserves serious attention because it can lead to various complications, including coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes mellitus, and kidney dysfunction. However, Dr. Hamka emphasized that metabolic syndrome is a condition that can be improved and even reversed if addressed early. "This condition can be managed and restored to a healthy state through consistent lifestyle changes," he said. He further explained several key indicators that should be monitored, including central obesity, high triglyceride levels, low HDL cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, and elevated blood sugar levels. To reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome, Dr. Hamka recommended adopting a healthy lifestyle through improved dietary habits, regular physical activity, weight management, adequate sleep quality, and effective stress management. In addition to the medical session, the webinar also featured Linda Eratni Elik, S.Gz, a nutritionist from Siloam Hospital, who provided insights into the importance of maintaining a healthy diet as part of preventing metabolic diseases. Through its ongoing health education programs, PT TIMAH hopes to foster a culture of healthy living in the workplace while developing a healthy, productive, and competitive workforce. (*)
