A Company Specializing in Environmental Protection and Remediation Technologies TORONTO, Jan. 25 /CNW/ - Dr. Gene Shelp, President of Enpar Technologies Inc. (ENPAR) is pleased to announce that the Company is the recipient of a $99,500 grant from IRAP. Over the next 12 months, the company and IRAP will invest a total of $250,000 to modify the design of the AmmEL electrochemical reactor for the recovery of the reaction products sodium hydroxide and hydrogen gas. The AmmEL Systems remove toxic ammonia from municipal waste water and convert the ammonia into environmentally friendly nitrogen gas. Sodium hydroxide and hydrogen gas are byproducts of the conversion reactions that occur within the electrochemical reactor. Recovered sodium hydroxide will be used to reduce chemical consumption in the ammonia removal stage, whereas the hydrogen gas will be used to generate electricity. A successful research program would lead to a reduction in overall operating costs for the AmmEL Systems. Dr. Shelp states "IRAP plays a vital role in supporting the creativity that is required for environmental technology innovators to compete and capture domestic and world markets. IRAP support has contributed significantly to the development of ENPAR's leading-edge water treatment technologies." The continued investment in research, coupled with commercialization and marketing of its leading edge water treatment systems, is consistent with ENPAR's long-term development and marketing strategy, which is designed to establish the company as a global player in the water treatment industry. ENPAR is a "Technology Company" that applies its patented and proprietary "Electrochemical Technologies" to the treatment of waste water and drinking water, which is contaminated by metals or nutrients (e.g., nitrate/ammonia associated with the mining, metal processing, chemical, agricultural, municipal and waste management sectors).
