ENPAR's DesEL System effectively treats arsenic-contaminated water in Mexico

· Issued by Current Water Technologies Inc via CNW
GUELPH, ON, Feb. 1 /CNW/ - Dr. Gene Shelp, President of Enpar
Technologies Inc., is pleased to announce that ENPAR's DesEL System removes
potentially harmful levels of arsenic from potable water sources. A
collaborative testing program with the Instituto Mexicano de Tecnologia del
Agua (IMTA) in Mexico has demonstrated that this technology is extremely
effective and potentially more economical than conventional technologies.
The current study is examining the efficacy of the DesEL System to treat
potable water sources in Mexico, which contain up to 2.35 ppm (parts per
million) arsenic. These levels far exceed the maximum permissible limit of
0.025 ppm set for year 2005 by the Official Mexican Norm (NOM-127-SSA1-1994).
It is estimated that 500,000 people live in rural areas in which the drinking
water supply contains arsenic levels exceeding 0.05 ppm. To date, testing has
focused on the town of Huautla, Morelos, Mexico. The treated water contains
less than 0.005 ppm as total arsenic, with both arsenic removal and water
recovery being about 97%.
To support the ongoing program, IMTA has purchased a portable DesEL-400
unit to enable onsite testing at remote locations. ENPAR is encouraged by the
very positive results of the testing program and is confident that the
collaborative testing program will assist greatly in introducing the highly
effective DesEL Water Treatment Technology to the Mexican market.
Arsenic, a human carcinogen, is reported to exist at concentrations
greater than the US Environmental Protection Agency Guideline Value of
0.010 ppm, in drinking water at various sites in Argentina, Australia,
Bangladesh, Chile, China, Hungary, India, Mexico, Peru, Thailand, and the
United States of America.
