Mongolia: A Rapidly-Growing Economy with a Vibrant Mining Sector

Mr. Bataa Tumur-Ochir is a Mongolian national that that serves as CEO and Director of Steppe Gold, responsible for new business acquisitions, development and government and community relations. He is also responsible for Steppe Gold’s daily operations in Mongolia. Bataa has over 10 years of experience in the mining industry, and is an advisor to Mongolias Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and graduate certificates in international business and marketing from Australia and Singapore.

Mr. Khangai is the CEO of the Mongolian Stock Exchange (MSE), re-appointed since September 2016. He is an active promoter of the capital markets to the investor community and potential issuers, as result, the Mongolian capital market is going through an IPO boom since late 2017 and welcomed investments into the local capital markets by well-known international institutional investors. During his time of service at the MSE, the markets capitalization of the Mongolian capital market jumped to USD2.0 billion in 2011 from USD400.00 million in 2009. His previous work experiences include MRI – Swiss-based commodity trading house, Toronto-based Centerra Gold Inc., the Personal Aide to the Mongolian Prime Minister and the Special Advisor to the Prime Minister. He is an Honorary President of the Mongolian-British Chamber of Commerce and a founding partner of one of the local real estate development companies.

Norm brings over 25 years of experience in institutional investment management expertise, particularly in the area of natural resources. He brings a unique perspective to the team having managed money through numerous commodity cycles over the past 25 years, and shares a particular passion for Mongolia as an investment destination. Prior to Fort Capital, Norm was Vice President, Investments with Invesco and Vice President and Portfolio Manager with Salida Capital. Norm earned a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Windsor and is a CFA Charterholder.
