The Celsia Solar Escobales 148 MWp Project in Colombia, built by POWERCHINA, was connected to the grid and started generating power on Nov 25.
This milestone marks a significant phased achievement in the project's construction, laying a solid foundation for subsequent full commissioning and operation. It also establishes another high-quality delivery case for POWERCHINA in the new energy market of Colombia and the wider Latin American region.
The project owner is Celsia, the fourth-largest power generation company in Colombia. This is the third photovoltaic (PV) project POWERCHINA has undertaken for Celsia and is currently POWERCHINA's largest PV project under construction in Colombia.
The smooth progression of the project further consolidates the cooperative relationship between POWERCHINA and Celsia. A s a result, the two parties plan to expand collaboration in various fields, including PV, wind power, gas-fired power plants, and green hydrogen production.
Since the commencement of the project, the project team has coordinated safety, quality, and schedule, efficiently advancing all key milestones on time despite numerous challenges, such as frequent local rainy seasons, complex terrain, stringent environmental protection requirements, supply chain constraints, and numerous coordination interfaces.
At the PV power generation site, a project manager from Celsia praised the construction results. He stated that the project's on-schedule grid connection and power generation is a vital achievement of China and Colombia working together to practice the concept of green development and promote mutually beneficial cooperation.
It is also a testament to the mutual trust, assistance, and deepened collaboration between the two sides in the new energy sector. The project is expected to drive local employment and promote technological exchange.
Once fully constructed and operational, the project will provide over 260 GWh of clean electricity annually, meeting the power demands of tens of thousands of local households and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 200,000 metric tons per year. This holds significant importance for optimizing Colombia's energy structure and promoting a clean, low-carbon transition.
