Athens, 2/7/2026 - Performance Technologies, in collaboration with HPE, worked with Athens International Airport (AIA) on the modernization of the FBCC operational network, which supports core airport operations as well as critical Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) systems, ensuring the continuous and uninterrupted operation of a complex and demanding environment.
As part of AIA's strategy to modernize its digital infrastructure, the existing network was upgraded through replacement, with the aim of enhancing scalability, availability and operational efficiency, in alignment with increasing business requirements and without any disruption to airport operations.
Performance Technologies implemented a modern architecture based on HPE Networking and Software Defined Networking (SDN) technologies, tailored to the requirements of a mission-critical environment.
The approach included the modernization of both the campus network and the data center. In the campus environment, the entire equipment base was replaced, including access, aggregation and core infrastructure, a high-capacity backbone was implemented, and a transition to a VXLAN/EVPN architecture was carried out, while security was enhanced in line with international standards. In the data center, a Spine-Leaf architecture was deployed, with two Active/Active infrastructures interconnected through redundant 100G links, ensuring high availability and resilience. The use of SDN enabled automation and simplified management through a central orchestrator, while 24x7 monitoring and support by Performance Technologies' NOC ensures a high level of service, with SLA-based response and restoration.
The result is a modern, secure and fully scalable network that reliably supports the airport's mission-critical operations, significantly reduces operational complexity and establishes a strong foundation for AIA's digital transformation and future evolution.
