TORONTO, Aug. 18 /CNW/ - ARIUS Research Inc. ("ARIUS") (TSX: ARI) today
announced that Dr. David Young, President and CSO of ARIUS, will give a talk
on ARIUS' "FunctionFIRST(TM) Antibody Technology" at the International
Congress on Monoclonal Antibodies in Cancer in Washington, DC on August 19,
2006 at 4:40 p.m. local time.
Dr. Young has pioneered an approach to the discovery of antibody drugs to
treat cancer through ARIUS' unique FunctionFIRST(TM) platform. ARIUS uses
tumor tissues from patients to generate antibodies then uses functional
screening to select the ones that attack and kill cancer cells or prevent them
from growing. Dr. Young's presentation will review the various scientific
methods for antibody discovery and provide a description and discussion of the
benefits of the FunctionFIRST(TM) approach. His talk will also include a
review of the novel antibodies and targets produced by the ARIUS platform.
ARIUS has entered into collaborations with other biopharma companies such
as PDL Biopharma Inc., Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited and Oxford
BioMedica PLC based on the FunctionFIRST(TM) platform. ARIUS has also
out-licensed one of its lead programs to Genentech, Inc and is pursuing
additional partnerships to move the next cohort of antibody treatments into
human clinical trials.
