WEG S.A. (B3: WEGE3 / OTC: WEGZY) announces to its shareholders and the general market that it has been contracted by ENGIE Brasil Energia to supply two generating units for the capacity expansion of the Jaguara Hydroelectric Power Plant, located on the Rio Grande River, on the border between the States of Minas Gerais and São Paulo, in the municipality of Rifaina, State of São Paulo.
The project foresees total investments of BRL 1.2 billion, which will increase the plant's installed capacity by 232 MW through the installation of two new generating units in existing shafts, each with a capacity of 116 MW. The new turbines are expected to begin operations in 2030. The expansion of the Jaguara Hydroelectric Power Plant reinforces the strategic role of hydropower plants in the energy transition scenario, considering their fundamental contribution to meeting high electricity demand during peak hours, ensuring Brazil's energy security.
