Update at 10:30 AM 17 April 2025
Our crews have worked through the night, where it has been safe to do so, and have managed to restore 80% of outages, with fewer than 2% of our customers affected. At the peak we have had 10,000 people without power at any one time.
With a forecast for the winds to remain severe throughout the day, we are expecting more outages, and we have a workforce of our own staff and contractors numbering a thousand people, to continue helping Aucklanders. However we will be unable to reach some outages until the winds ease, because of safety issues for our crews.
There are also some areas where access may be an issue and the nature of the damage may mean these take longer for us to restore.
Anyone without power should follow updates on our website vector.co.nz/outages as this is the fastest way to stay up to date with restoration progress.
Please remember to stay well clear of any downed or low-hanging lines, treat them as live at all times, and call 111 if you see any.
If you are medically dependent on electricity, we recommend making sure your back up plan is ready if needed.
