Uplift Aerospace (NRP Stone - Symbol: NRPI) is privileged to announce that they have entered into a memorandum of understanding with the University of Arizona and Center for Human Space Exploration (CHaSE) at the Biosphere2 to collaborate on the development of a diverse and accessible commercial astronaut training program.
CHaSE is a research and development facility at the University of Arizona focused on furthering the sustainable presence of humanity in our solar system and beyond. Founded in 2022, their mission is to foster the global space community through experiential opportunities. With access to world class facilities, CHaSE disseminates resources to students, industry, professionals, and the public. Their current programs and projects include space suit operations certification, space craft egress training, flight oxygen systems training, high altitude chamber training, open source space suit components, Zero G test flights, and TC-TSAC life support redesign.
The first joint astronaut training program between Uplift Aerospace and the University of Arizona will be with the Space+5, a group of five individuals selected to train as commercial astronauts by Uplift’s Space+ Web3 Space Program. Ruben Salinas was selected by the Space+ community to be the first commercial astronaut for Space+’s upcoming flight on a Blue Origin New Shepard rocket. The Space+5 includes Ruben Salinas as the first commercial Astronaut and group leader, Sydney Hamilton, Mike Mongo, Trent Tresch, and Joan Melendez-Misner. The full Space+5 class is training to support the mission and will also fly if an additional opportunity arises.
