United Utilities : The Moor Pool £48m investment in Knutsford hits major

About this update from United Utilities Group Plc
We're continuing to make good progress on the upgrade and improvement projects in knustford which, on completion will provide additional storm water storage. Reduce storm overflow operations and improve the quality of treated water we return to the environment. The improvements work form part of the broader Big North West upgrade which will see over £13bn invested in thousands of projects over the next 4 years. Part of the project involves the construction of a massive 1.8km long and 2 meter diameter underground storage tunnel. This tunnel will hold storm water during periods of heavy rain and runs between Moor Pumping Station and Knutsford Treatment works. When conditions allow, the stored water will be released from storage and treated as normal. Spare a thought for Lilly - the tunnel boring machine - at her deepest point she was tunnelling almost 20m below ground! Lilly's re-emergence signals the halfway point of the project which is on schedule to store up to 5.5million litres of stormwater - enough to fill two Olympic sized swimming pools. On completion, Moor Pool should be a shining example of lasting environmental resilience.
