First for Japanese Cars!

Development of Fingerprint-Authentication Start Switch, Contributing

to Anti-Theft Performance

- Installed on the New Toyota Land Cruiser -

TOKAI RIKA Co., Ltd. (President: Hiroyoshi Ninoyu) has developed a fingerprint-authentication start switch to help boost vehicle anti-theft performance. A first for Japanese cars, this switch will be used by the new Toyota Land Cruiser that was launched in August 2021. This switch has also been awarded one of Toyota Motor Corporation's vehicle project technology prizes for helping to greatly enhance the appeal of the Land Cruiser.

TOKAI RIKA is responsible for developing, designing, and manufacturing a wide range of security-related products such as steering locks and immobilizers. The fingerprint sensor in the middle of the developed switch reads the driver's fingerprint and allows the engine to start if the fingerprint matches that of a registered user, a process that should help to prevent the pressing social issue of vehicle theft. The switch also features an individual identification function that memorizes the favored seat and door mirror positions of the registered users, thereby also contributing to creating a more comfortable moving space.
