VANCOUVER, July 10 /CNW/ - Starfire Minerals Inc. has completed seven
diamond drill holes for a total of 1,705 meters on its Langmuir South nickel
prospect located in Langmuir Township, on the Shaw Dome portion of the Timmins
Nickel belt lying about 25 km southeast of Timmins, Ontario, Canada. The
Company is encouraged by results to date on both the Langmuir South nickel
zone, known from previous historical drilling, and from the new Southeast
Langmuir prospect.
Drilling of one hole on the Langmuir South zone has confirmed the
presence of the historical sulphide zone. Previous historical work had
projected a modest tonnage extending southward from the adjacent property to
the north onto the Starfire claims. Additional drilling is needed to test
projections of this zone to depth on the Starfire claims.
Drilling to date of two holes on a new ultramafic zone lying southeast of
the Langmuir South area has returned encouraging anomalous nickel sulphide
values over substantial core intercepts within komatiitic ultramafic flows.
Values of approximately 0.1% Ni occur within two to three intervals over core
lengths of 30 to 40 meters in intersections from both drill holes. The nickel
sulphide mineralization in this Southeast Langmuir zone appears to be
stratigraphically controlled within a series of ultramafic flows. This major
ultramafic unit, over 375 meters in thickness, holds potential for both
disseminated bulk-tonnage low-grade nickel mineralization and high-grade
massive-sulphide nickel mineralization.
Additional drilling is planned for the southeast Langmuir zone in the
near future to test an electromagnetic conductor that parallels the structure
of the flow layers.
Four other drill holes penetrated conductive iron formation units and
returned no significant nickel mineralization.
Starfire holds four claim blocks within the Langmuir nickel belt. Current
production, exploration, and former production within the Langmuir nickel belt
provide Starfire management with the basis to have confidence that this area
warrants an extended exploration effort.
