TORONTO, Sept. 22 /CNW/ - Mr. Viraf Kapadia, C.E.O. of Star Navigation
Systems Group Ltd. ('Star"), developer of Flight Safety and Fleet Monitoring
Systems, is pleased to announce the following update concerning ongoing sales
initiatives at Star.
PAKISTAN INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES
As previously announced, Star is presently working with PIA, and will be
installing our patented ISMS(TM) system in an A-310 aircraft as part of a
Trial Evaluation starting in October. The relevant STC has been issued. PIA
currently has a fleet of 43 aircraft and Star expects to exceed PIA's
expectations. Although we have been working with this customer for some time,
dealing with the necessary government approvals, approving installation
details and setting operational parameters has taken a somewhat longer period
of time than anticipated. As a part of the total package, Star will be
providing PIA with a comprehensive "End of Flight - Summary Report." This
report covers multiple parameters respecting the flight and is available to
PIA within seconds after the end of each flight. ISMS(TM) will simplify PIA's
compliance with regulations issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of
Pakistan.
ETIHAD
Star continues to work with Etihad Airways and is in the process of
confirming aircraft availability. Installation is subject to an aircraft being
removed from service for other scheduled maintenance and regulatory checks,
and normally takes between 3 and 5 days. Based upon current information, we
are confident that we will begin installation on an A-340 in November. Etihad
currently has a fleet of 20 aircraft, with several more on order. Star has
already obtained an STC for the aircraft and we expect that ISMS(TM) will be
instrumental in ensuring that the A-340 aircraft deploys "Leading Edge"
technology in order to monitor selected systems and components for many years
to come.
SPICEJET
As a low-cost airline in India, SpiceJet has a fleet of 6 aircraft and
ISMS(TM) has already been installed on a SpiceJet Boeing 737. We continue to
await Indian Government Authorization sanctioning the use of Iridium Satellite
technology over its air-space, and based upon recent communications, have been
assured that it will be forthcoming shortly. Star has selected Iridium as a
cost effective provider for satellite transmissions, as opposed to other
higher cost alternatives. In addition to providing ISMS(TM) features and
functionality, Star will also be providing SpiceJet with a comprehensive "End
of Flight - Summary Report", as discussed above.
Supplemental Type Certificates
The Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) process can take up to 6 weeks
from the initial application. In addition, significant time, effort and due
diligence is required to ensure the coordination of design and installation
requirements in advance of submission to Transport Canada for approval. As
part of Aviation Industry Standards, all equipment to be installed or
provisioned in an aircraft must have the appropriate STC.
