With new approvals in Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia, Stadler is significantly expanding the operational reach of its EURODUAL locomotive. The bi-mode locomotive thus enables seamless and efficient freight operations between Central and Southeast Europe.
Stadler's EURODUAL locomotive has been approved for operation in Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia, reinforcing international rail freight connectivity along the Pan-European Corridor X, linking Central Europe with the Balkan region towards Turkey.
"The EURODUAL is already successfully operating in a wide range of European markets, including Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, Norway, Sweden and Turkey. Its proven performance confirms its suitability for demanding freight operations. The new approvals enable additional cross-border freight services and support more efficient rail connections in Southeast Europe." said Iñigo Parra, CEO of Stadler Valencia.
Designed as a six-axle bi-mode locomotive, the EURODUAL combines electric and diesel traction in one platform, enabling seamless operation across electrified and non-electrified networks. With 6.2 MW of electric power and a 2.8 MW diesel engine, the EURODUAL delivers high tractive effort and allows continuous operations without locomotive changes, making it particularly well suited to regions with mixed infrastructure, such as the Balkan region, where rail electrification typically ranges between 40 and 50 percent.
In addition, the EURODUAL contributes to the further development of sustainable rail freight transport. Higher hauling capacities help optimise resource use, while advanced propulsion technology, including a Stage V-compliant diesel engine and compatibility with HVO fuels, reduces local emissions.
Through the approval in Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia, Stadler continues to expand the operational range of the EURODUAL, enabling efficient, flexible and reliable rail freight operations across Europe.
