Stadler and CapMetro have signed a long-term service agreement. Stadler will provide technical support and spare parts sourcing advisory services for the agency's fleet of Stadler GTW trains operating on Austin's commuter rail service.
Starting in January 2027, Stadler will provide technical onsite support for the 10 GTW diesel-powered articulated multiple unit vehicles currently in operation on CapMetro rail in Austin. The Stadler fleet has been carrying passengers since the launch of the rail service in 2010.
The contract includes a five-year base term from 2027 through 2032, with two one-year option periods that could extend the partnership through 2034. Stadler will establish a dedicated local service team of three to provide onsite technical support, engineering expertise, spare parts management, training and obsolescence support for CapMetro's GTW fleet. Through the agreement, Stadler can provide original equipment manufacturer (OEM) expertise, which will help CapMetro maintain its fleet safely, reliably, and efficiently.
Investing in Reliable Service for Austin Riders
For passengers, the agreement is designed to support the continued reliability and availability of the Red Line service. By providing direct access to Stadler's engineering and technical expertise, CapMetro will be better positioned to address maintenance challenges proactively, reduce downtime, and keep trains operating at peak performance as the fleet ages.
In addition, Stadler will support CapMetro in managing obsolescence topics, helping to identify replacement solutions for aging components and ensuring the long-term availability of critical spare parts. This proactive approach will help ensure that riders can continue to depend on safe, reliable, and consistent commuter rail service for years to come.
"With this agreement we are building on our long-standing relationship with CapMetro," said Martin Ritter, President and CEO of Stadler North America. "Together with CapMetro, we are focused on providing the reliable service that Austin riders expect and deserve while helping maximize the performance and longevity of the fleet."
Expanding Stadler's Commitment to Texas Transit Agencies
The CapMetro agreement marks Stadler's fourth service contract in Texas. The company already provides service and maintenance support for Stadler fleets in various cities in Texas, underscoring its growing role as a long-term partner to transit agencies across the state.
By combining local support with OEM expertise, Stadler and CapMetro are creating a partnership ready to serve the region's growing transportation needs.
