SPIEF 2025: Alexey Miller and Ding Xuexiang, Vice Premier of State Council of PRC, discuss key matters pertaining to strategic cooperation in gas sector

At the meeting, appreciation was expressed for the ongoing cooperation between the parties under the project for Russian gas supplies to China via the eastern route. It was noted that the overall exports of Russian pipeline gas have already exceeded 100 billion cubic meters since the start of supplies to China.

The meeting participants reviewed the progress of the project for the Far Eastern route. The gas supplies via the route are scheduled to begin in 2027.

Alexey Miller and Ding Xuexiang also discussed high-potential projects in the gas sector. The parties expressed the intention to strengthen their mutually beneficial partnership which is aimed at the economic development and well-being of the people of Russia and China.

Background

The supplies of Russian gas to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline started in 2019 under the long-term Sales and Purchase Agreement between Gazprom and CNPC. Each year since 2020, the supplies have been in excess of the annual contractual obligations of Gazprom.On December 1, 2024, following China's request, Gazprom brought the daily gas exports via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline to the maximum contractual level one month before the scheduled date.

The long-term Sales and Purchase Agreement for natural gas to be supplied via the Far Eastern route was signed in February 2022. As soon as the project reaches its full capacity, the amount of Russian pipeline gas supplies to China is going to grow by 10 billion cubic meters, totaling 48 billion cubic meters per year.

St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2025 is being held from June 18 to 21. The main theme of this year's Forum is "Shared Values: The Foundation of Growth in a Multipolar World."
