PANGKALPINANG -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk is strengthening its Security Management System (SMP) as part of its efforts to ensure that the company's operations as a National Vital Object (Obvitnas) are carried out safely, orderly, effectively, and sustainably.
The initiative was carried out through Technical Guidance on the Security Management System for National Vital Objects at PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk, in collaboration with the Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police.
The event, held at the PT TIMAH Meeting Room on Monday (September 28, 2026), was attended by Deputy Chief of the Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police Brigadier General Murry Mirranda, Director of Operations of PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk Handy Geniardi, Head of the Technical Guidance Team for Aligning Perceptions on the Security Management System Based on National Police Regulation No. 7/2019 Senior Commissioner Norul Hidayat, as well as Division Heads of PT TIMAH.
Director of Operations of PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk Handy Geniardi said PT TIMAH has a responsibility to ensure that all of the company's operational activities are carried out safely, orderly, effectively, and sustainably.
"Security is not the responsibility of just one unit or one party. It is a shared responsibility that requires commitment, coordination, and a common understanding," he said.
According to him, the Security Management System should not focus solely on responding when security incidents occur. More importantly, it must be capable of preventing incidents, enhancing preparedness, responding appropriately, and conducting continuous evaluations.
Through the technical guidance, PT TIMAH aims to align perspectives, enhance competencies, and ensure that the security system it has established can be implemented consistently across all of the company's operational areas, including Bangka, Belitung, and Kundur.
"I hope this activity does not stop at conceptual understanding, but results in concrete measures and improvements that can be directly implemented in each work unit," he said.
According to Handy, the company's increasingly dynamic business processes require its security system to continuously adapt. Therefore, the implementation of the Security Management System is being strengthened to become more robust, integrated, measurable, and capable of anticipating various potential risks.
"Synergy between PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk and the police is an important part of ensuring the protection of personnel, assets, facilities, information, and all of the company's operational activities. Through strong collaboration and shared commitment, PT TIMAH's Security Management System can become increasingly effective in creating a safe and secure environment, enabling the company to operate optimally and contribute to the company, the community, and national interests," he said.
Deputy Chief of the Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police Brigadier General Murry Mirranda emphasized the importance of strengthening risk management in the implementation of PT TIMAH's Security Management System. According to him, the security system must be understood and implemented throughout the organization, rather than solely by the division specifically responsible for security.
The implementation of risk management is also considered essential for identifying potential vulnerabilities, including those related to Mining Business Permit (IUP) areas and social dynamics within communities surrounding the company's operations.
According to him, the technical guidance has several objectives, including shifting the paradigm from simply guarding assets to managing security risks, aligning perspectives across all levels of the organization regarding the management system, and preparing PT TIMAH for a Security Management System audit covering commitments and policies.
The program also aims to prevent security incidents before they escalate into legal issues and to protect four key assets: people, physical assets, information, and operations. In addition, it seeks to strengthen collaboration among PT TIMAH, the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla), local governments, and communities, while supporting business continuity and public interests.
"Technical guidance on the Security Management System is not simply about how PT TIMAH protects its assets after a threat emerges. It is about how the company identifies risks early, prevents incidents before they occur, responds quickly when an incident occurs, and makes security part of the culture throughout the organization," he said.
Head of the Technical Guidance and Perception Alignment Team on the Security Management System Based on National Police Regulation No. 7 of 2019, Senior Commissioner Norul Hidayat, said the police are ready to assist PT TIMAH in developing a security management system that can be independently implemented by the company.
"Strengthening the Security Management System is important as potential threats to the company's operational activities continue to evolve. Therefore, the security approach needs to shift from simply guarding assets to comprehensively managing security risks," he said.
Previously, PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk established a partnership with the Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police through a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) covering security assistance, asset protection and control, and law enforcement to support PT TIMAH's operations. (*)
