Peruvian consumer goods group Alicorp said on October 1 it had completed the acquisition of 100% of shares in three regional companies, including Ecuador's Jabonería Wilson, as part of its expansion strategy across Latin America, El Universo reported.

The deal encompasses Jabonería Wilson in Ecuador, alongside Peru's Disanu and Colombia's Sanuss, all of which operate in the home care, personal care and clothing care segments.

The Peruvian company said in a statement that purchasing Jabonería Wilson represented a substantial investment in Ecuador that would stimulate economic growth, develop local industry and energise the market.

The transaction extends Alicorp's regional footprint through a business with over eight decades of market presence. Jabonería Wilson's portfolio includes well-established brands such as Lava and GOL.

Alicorp produces mass-market food products alongside household and personal care items. The company also supplies ingredients to the baking, gastronomy and industrial sectors, whilst manufacturing balanced feed for shrimp, salmon and fish farming.

The group already operates in Ecuador through brands including AlaCena, Don Vittorio and Sapolio.

'Ecuador is a strategic country for Alicorp. We will combine the best of both companies, creating a joint operation that maximises value for our consumers and customers. This is a commitment to revitalising the industry and strengthening our regional presence with a diverse, innovative, and high-quality product portfolio through Jabonería Wilson's emblematic brands, to which we will add the Alicorp portfolio,' said Alvaro Correa, chief executive of Alicorp.

Francisco Guerrero, general manager of Jabonería Wilson, said: 'We are very excited about this merger. Alicorp's merger with Jabonería Wilson is a demonstration of our confidence in Ecuador's potential, its people, and our 80-year legacy.'

Ecuador's Superintendency of Economic Competition declined to provide details on the transaction's approval process, stating that 'in accordance with the law, the processes include confidential and reserved stages, and due process guarantees are met to ensure their legality.'

This marks Alicorp's second major acquisition in Ecuador as part of its regional growth strategy. The company purchased 100% of ice cream maker Helados Eskimo in 2007 for nearly $10.6mn.
