Pennon has made a significant step in its sustainability journey by becoming a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative. The announcement reinforces the company's commitment to its environmental, social and governance (ESG) targets and builds upon its support for the UN Sustainable Development Goals. UNGC is a voluntary initiative based on CEO commitments to implement universal sustainability principles and to take steps to support UN goals. By joining the UNGC, Pennon has pledged to further integrate its ten principles covering human rights, labour standards, environmental protection, and anti-corruption into its ESG approach. Furthermore, the company will communicate its progress against these principles annually, from next year onwards. Susan Davy, Chief Executive Officer, said: "Joining the UN Global Compact is another step in our important sustainability work as we continue to deliver strong performance in our ESG benchmarks which is woven throughout our business. It's not only what we do, but how we do it, as a purpose and values led business - by embedding these key principles we can build on the progress we have already made and will continue to do so for generations to come." By aligning with the UNGC's principles, Pennon affirms its commitment to ESG and positioning the company as industry leaders, alongside other signatories from the water industry.
