Hungarian electrical and construction products distributor Mixvill Villamossági Kereskedőház has commissioned Jungheinrich to automate its new logistics centre in Debrecen, Hungary, including an automated miniload warehouse (an automated store for small parts in containers) with more than 60,000 container locations.

Key details

  • The automated warehouse spans four aisles across roughly 1,500 square metres and stands 14.5 metres high, with one stacker crane (an automated storage and retrieval machine) per aisle. It will operate five days a week in two shifts.
  • Jungheinrich is supplying the racking, stacker cranes, container conveyor system with workstations, control technology, visualisation and its Warehouse Management System (WMS) software, which manages stock and orders.

Hamburg / Debrecen - Mixvill Villamossági Kereskedőház, one of Hungary's leading distributors of electrical and construction-related products, has commissioned Jungheinrich to automate its new logistics centre in Debrecen. The greenfield site will house an automated miniload warehouse with more than 60,000 container locations, from which Mixvill will supply both trade customers and end customers.

Mixvill trades in electrical and construction-related products at both wholesale and retail level. Its existing warehouse logistics have reached their capacity limits, and its processes across the different areas require a new approach. With the new building, the company is now bringing these processes together at one site, standardising them and creating headroom for further growth.

The automated miniload warehouse spans four aisles across roughly 1,500 square metres and stands 14.5 metres high. One stacker crane per aisle handles the storage and retrieval of the containers. The warehouse will operate five days a week in two shifts.

Technology and software from a single source

Jungheinrich is supplying everything from a single source: the racking structure, the stacker cranes, the container conveyor system including the workstations, plus control technology and visualisation. The conveyor system links the goods-in stations, goods-out and a dedicated workstation for B2C orders to the warehouse. The Jungheinrich Warehouse Management System (WMS) manages stock and orders.

Narrow aisles, pallets and long goods

Alongside the automated warehouse, a manual area is being created with narrow-aisle racking, pallet racking and cantilever racking for long goods. The racking and the trucks also come from Jungheinrich. Two EKX 516 narrow-aisle trucks work in the narrow aisles, and two ETV 316i reach trucks serve the pallet racking. At the cantilever racking, an ETV Q25 multi-directional reach truck handles the long goods. Its all-wheel steering moves loads of up to eight metres in length through narrow aisles. Five ERE 120i pallet trucks connect the areas.

"In Debrecen, we are rebuilding our logistics from the ground up. Our range runs from small parts in containers through palletised goods to long goods, and every product group needs its own storage technology while still fitting into one overall concept. What tipped the balance for us was that Jungheinrich delivers all of it from a single source, after more than a year of joint planning," said István Besenyei, CEO at Mixvill.

"With this project, we are delivering a complete system tailored precisely to the customer's requirements. The automated miniload warehouse, the manual storage area, the conveyor systems and the software were designed together from the outset," said Benjamin Bahram, Project Manager International Sales at Jungheinrich. "Mixvill gains a logistics platform that serves its wholesale and end-customer business equally well and leaves room for further growth."

The system is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2027.
