Motor Oil Hellas Corinth Refineries S A : Group enables the deployment of Greece’s first registered hydrogen passenger

About this update from Motor Oil (hellas) Corinth Refineries S.a.
A major milestone for hydrogen mobility in Greece has been reached with the delivery of the first hydrogen fuel cell passenger vehicles (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles - FCEVs) to be registered in the country. The achievement marks another important step forward for the development of the hydrogen economy in Greece through the initiatives of Motor Oil Group, which designed, leads and coordinates the European TRIERES - Greek Hydrogen Valley project. The two Toyota MIRAI vehicles were delivered to the Municipality of Loutraki - Perachora - Agioi Theodoroi and Olympia Odos, both partners in the TRIERES project, which co-financed their procurement. The handover took place at AVIN's hydrogen refuelling station in Agioi Theodoroi, where the vehicles were also refuelled for the first time. Together, the operation of the hydrogen refuelling station, the capability to transport renewable hydrogen through Coral Gas' dedicated fleet of trailers, and the introduction of the first hydrogen passenger vehicles on Greek roads create a pioneering pilot ecosystem for sustainable road mobility. The Municipality of Loutraki - Perachora - Agioi Theodoroi becomes the first municipality in Greece to integrate a hydrogen-powered vehicle into its fleet, while Olympia Odos is the first motorway operator in the country to deploy hydrogen technology in its day-to-day operations, supporting the pilot implementation of zero-emission transport solutions. TRIERES - the European Hydrogen Valley for 2024 - is one of the flagship projects funded by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership under Horizon Europe. It brings together a consortium of 26 partners from five countries. As project coordinator, Motor Oil is leading the development of an integrated hydrogen ecosystem in Greece, covering the entire renewable hydrogen value chain, from production, storage and distribution to refuelling infrastructure and pilot applications across industry, energy and transport. The project is laying the foundations for the wider deployment of hydrogen technologies in Greece and across Southeast Europe. Konstantinos Chatzifotis, European Affairs Manager at Motor Oil, commented: "The registration and deployment of the first hydrogen passenger vehicles on Greek roads marks a significant milestone for sustainable mobility in our country. This achievement is the result of Motor Oil's strategic vision, initiatives and leadership as coordinator of the European TRIERES project. It demonstrates that the hydrogen economy is no longer a distant ambition, but is gradually becoming a reality through the development of infrastructure, the implementation of real-world applications and effective collaboration between the public and private sectors."
