Lindian Resources reports construction progress at Kangankunde rare earths project in Malawi

Lindian Resources (ASX: LIN) said on May 7 that construction at its Kangankunde Rare Earths Project (Kangankunde) in Malawi is advancing as scheduled, with first production expected in the December quarter.

It said in an update that 'strong' progress is being recorded across the process plant, non-process infrastructure and mining activities.

“Key milestones achieved during the period include the commencement of process plant civil works and foundations, continued progress on the 33kV powerline and associated site infrastructure, development of the haul road and ROM (run of mine) pad, mobilisation of key earthmoving equipment, and the completion of important regulatory approvals supporting operational readiness,” it said.

Front-end commissioning is scheduled for October while practical completion is expected by mid-November.

The project is fully funded up to first production following a recent $72mn institutional placement.

The stage one process plant is designed for 20,000 tonnes per annum nameplate concentrate capacity in line.

Process plant civil works have started, said Lindian in the release, with shaking table base pours completed, product shed blinding progressing, and semi-autogenous grinding excavation underway.

'Kangankunde continues to demonstrate strong execution momentum, with construction progressing across all major work fronts and the Project remaining on schedule for first production in 2026,” said Lindian’s Executive Director, Zac Komur.

“The commencement of process plant civil works, continued progress on the haul road and ROM pad, and the advancement of the electrical programme are important milestones as we move closer to commissioning.  The team remains focused on safe delivery, disciplined execution and ensuring the project is operationally ready ahead of commissioning.'
