Lindian Resources begins resource definition drilling at Malawi rare earths project Kangankunde

Lindian Resources Limited (ASX: LIN) has started stage two resource definition drilling and mine geotechnical programmes at its Kangankunde Rare Earths Project (Kangankunde) in Malawi.

The drive, said the firm in an update on February 11, is designed to lift resource confidence by converting approximately 20mn to 40mn tonnes of existing inferred mineral resource material within the current resource footprint to indicated status, focused on areas under and on the margins of the current indicated resource to fall within a potential stage two expansion mine design.

Lindian will drill about 3,400m of diamond core and 2,700m of reverse circulation holes under a campaign which is set to run through April.  Assay results are expected by end May, and an updated resource model targeted for end June.

The drilling is targeting areas where additional confidence in continuity and grade distribution is required to support mine scheduling and stage two pit design within and adjacent to the current resource envelope, the company explained.

Lindian’s executive director Zac Komur commented:

“Stage two is about scale and mine life, and that starts with confidence in the resource model and the design inputs that sit behind it. This programme is focused on the parts of the orebody most likely to define the stage two expansion case, converting targeted inferred material to indicated where the drilling supports it, and completing the geotechnical work required for robust pit design. Stage two is fully permitted and this current drilling will help define our speed to move to stage two production.”
