Lindian Resources moves towards construction, mining readiness at Malawian rare earths project

Lindian Resources (ASX: LIN), a Perth-based mining company, has started delivering heavy machinery at its Kangankunde Rare Earths Project (Kangankunde) in Malawi.

It said on January 8 that the delivery of the vehicles enhances its operational readiness. The fleet, which includes a dozer, two excavators, two wheel loaders, five dump trucks, a grader and a drill, is being inspected and commissioned. The remaining fleet deliveries are expected to continue across the March quarter.

Processing plant development is advancing with the design and construct partner Obsideo progressing detailed engineering, construction planning and site integration following completion of early works and site establishment.

Work on the main administration building at Kangankunde is advancing, with all foundation excavations at the workers' residential camp completed.

“The pace on site at Kangankunde continues to build across all work fronts, with solid progress across civil preparation, power, camp facilities and key support infrastructure,” commented Lindian's executive director, Zac Komur.

“The first Komatsu fleet deliveries are an important step in establishing our owner-operator mining capability, with commissioning and operator training progressing in parallel to support operational readiness.  In parallel, we are advancing the critical enablers, including workshops, fuel infrastructure, perimeter security and explosives facilities, to strengthen operating readiness and reduce execution risk.”
