VANCOUVER, Feb. 6 /CNW/ - International KRL Resources Corp. (TSXV:IRK) today announced the encouraging results of the 2007 exploration program on its 100%-owned (subject to a 2% NSR), 448 claim (9,360 ha) Nor Project, located just east of the Dempster Hwy, 300 km northeast of Dawson City, Yukon Territory. The 2007 exploration program involved 1,188 metres of diamond drilling in seven holes; a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey, as well as mapping and prospecting.
Highlights from the 2007 diamond drill program include 0.20% Cu over 64.95 m, including 31.95 m of 0.29% Cu, which includes 15 m of 0.38% Cu in hole NOR-07-15 and 3 m of 0.42% Cu in hole NOR-07-14. The copper mineralization intersected by holes NOR 07-14 and -15 is close to surface at the contact between the Wernecke Breccia and the Fairchild Lake Group Rocks and is open along strike and at depth. A map of the drill hole locations and highlighted sections may be viewed at www.krl.net.
Holes NOR 07-12 to NOR 07-15 targeted the contact zone between a body of Wernecke Breccia with the surrounding Fairchild Lake Group Rocks, within which copper mineralization was intersected in 2006 (0.25% Cu over 20 m from hole NOR 06-09) (see News Release November 7, 2006). Key results from the 2007 diamond drill program, calculated as weighted averages, are summarized below:
------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hole No. From (m) To (m) Interval (m) Cu (%) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOR 07-14 34.0 45.0 11.0 0.14 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- including 35.0 38.0 3.0 0.42 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOR 07-15 3.05 68.0 64.95 0.20 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- including 3.05 35.0 31.95 0.29 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- (which includes) 20.0 35.0 15.0 0.38 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- including 44.0 68.0 24.0 0.14 -------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Wernecke Breccias in the Yukon are well known for Iron Oxide Copper Gold (IOCG) mineralization. Significant mineralization associated with Wernecke Breccia on other properties in the Yukon include; 213.05 m. of 0.175% Cu on the Slab Creek property and a "potential" of 18 million tonnes grading 0.35% Cu at Slab Mountain based on 3 diamond drill holes and surface sampling (Thorkelson et al, 2002). The 18 million tonne amount and 0.35% Cu grade are for information purposes only and do not comply with NI43-101 mineral resource criterion. On the NOR property the Wernecke Breccia body measures approximately 2.1 km by 1.7 km in size and only a small portion of the breccia body and its contact with the country rocks has been tested by drilling so far.
Holes NOR 07-10, NOR 07-11 and NOR 07-16 targeted coincident uranium geochemical and uranium radiometric geophysical anomalies in the south part of the property. Further evidence of uranium mineralization was observed in surface samples and hand trenches in the Wernecke Breccia body, with values of 1.3% to 5.54% U(3)O(8) from grab samples mapped over a strike length of more than 1.1 km (see News Release September 10, 2007). The indicated uranium structure was not targeted in the 2007 drill program. Mechanized trenching might be necessary to overcome overburden and permafrost to determine the tenor and orientation of the uranium mineralization, which will be the focus of the next exploration programme.
The high resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey completed in 2007 identified a buried intrusive indicated towards the eastern portion of the property. Elevated radiometric potassium values in the southeast survey support this. Further, the Wernecke Breccia exposure corresponds to a magnetically active zone, likely due to alteration and/or faulting.
All samples were analyzed for copper using ICP by Eco Tech Laboratory of Kamloops British Columbia, an ISO accredited laboratory. Standard quality control procedures were employed and the Company inserted one standard in every 50 samples sent to the laboratory.
