Mar. 2, 2011 (Canada NewsWire Group) --
VANCOUVER, March 2 /CNW/ - Global Minerals Ltd. (CTG: TSX-V) is pleased to provide this update on exploration activities at its Strieborná silver-copper project in Slovakia.
Drilling to Begin
Drilling is expected to begin during mid-March. Permits have been approved pending required site inspection. A drilling contractor has been chosen and is ready to mobilize. Initial drilling will be from surface and designed to re-confirm high grade mineralization in the upper portion of the Strieborná vein, to test for extensions along strike and to test known parallel veins. Eight drill sites have been selected with an initial program of 3400 meters of core drilling planned in 12 holes. Follow-up surface drilling will be based on initial results.

Permits to begin de-watering the underground tunnels are advanced. De-watering is expected to begin in the second quarter of this year with initial underground access during the second half. Once access is available underground drill stations will be rehabilitated and drilling will begin. Underground access will also provide the opportunity to collect bulk samples for metallurgical testing.
Regional Exploration Leads to Expanded Claim Holding
A regional compilation of geological, geophysical and geochemical data is now advanced. Several favourable prospective areas have been identified and as a result, applications have been submitted for approximately 120 square kilometers of exploration licenses. Contained within the boundaries of the new licenses are numerous base and precious metal showings and historical workings. The new licenses are contiguous with existing exploration permits. These new licenses give Global a preeminent land position in the Roznava area. Field work will begin as weather permits.
In addition, a surface exploration campaign on the existing exploration licenses Roznava North and Roznava East, will commence mid April 2011. The concessions are adjacent to the Strieborná vein. Work will include mapping, sampling and geochemical surveys.
About Strieborna
Strieborna is located in eastern Slovakia, a fully fledged member state of the European Union. It is in a historic mining district near the town of Roznava, known for iron production. An NI 43-101 compliant resource calculation by AMC Ltd. (April 2008) calculated 1,925 million tonnes (Measured and Indicated) grading 231.7 grams per tonne silver, 1.1% copper, and 0.7% antimony; 1.50 million tonnes (Inferred) grading 180.0 grams per tonne silver, 0.9% copper and 0.7% antimony (AMC Pty., April 2008). The full details of such resources were announced on April 23, 2008 and a complete NI 43-101 Technical Report can be found on SEDAR at www.sedar.com.
The Strieborna deposit is the only silver-copper-antimony mine in Europe which could be brought into production in the near future. The mineralization zone has been outlined underground by a series of horizontal drifts, and measures 600 meters vertically by 1.2 kilometers along strike. The mineralization is open in all directions.
Strieborna was discovered in 1981, and roughly parallels the important iron-bearing vein deposit at the Maria Mine, located approximately 500 meters to the west. Strieborna is currently accessed underground by cross cuts from the nearby Maria workings. It was systematically explored on four underground levels totaling 3,000 meters in length (Levels 8, 9, 10, and 13).
Infrastructure at Strieborna is excellent, with electrical power, rail, highways, and a nearby workforce, many of whom have had underground experience in nearby underground iron mines, now shut down.
