Fortum and the Municipality of Teuva are starting a collaboration to develop an industrial site located in Kärppiö, Teuva. Under a land reservation agreement, Fortum will develop and market the 70-hectare site for low-carbon industrial activities.
The site is intended for industrial operations such as the production of green hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives. The actual investment will be made by the company establishing its operations at the site.
"Kärppiö offers excellent conditions for the establishment of energy-intensive industries. The proximity of Fingrid's substation and the area's existing infrastructure provide a strong foundation for a wide range of industrial investments," says Jyrki Holappa, Industrial Site Development Director at Fortum.
"It is very positive for the municipality to bring a strong, well-known and reliable project developer to the area," says Rami Mattila, Municipal Manager of Teuva. "This cooperation supports the municipality's efforts to broaden the area's development opportunities and strengthen its attractiveness for new investments. If realised, such investments could have a significant positive impact on local vitality through both direct and indirect employment effects and, in particular, through increased property tax revenues that would benefit the municipal economy."
Through the development project, Fortum aims to support the growth of industries that utilise low-carbon energy, in line with its strategy.
