GSM Tanzania Limited awarded a contract to Danieli for supply of a new 300,000-tpy rebar and wirerod mill, to be installed in the Kilimanjaro Industrial Park, in Tanzania. The project represents a strategic investment aimed at strengthening GSM's position in the regional steel market while supporting the country's growing demand for construction and infrastructure products. The new mill will process 150x150-mm billets at a production rate of up to 50 tph. Designed to serve the key requirements of the East African construction sector, the plant will produce deformed reinforcing bars ranging from 8 to 32 mm and smooth wirerod in the 5.5- to 6.5-mm size range. Danieli's scope of supply includes the complete rolling mill technological package, featuring 14 cartridge-type GCC stands, a BGV 10-pass finishing block, an in-line quenching and tempering system, and a twin-channel high-speed delivery system to the cooling bed for the rebar line. The wirerod line will be equipped with an in-line QTR system and Danieli's patented oil-film bearing laying head, combined with a cooling conveyor to ensure high operational stability and excellent coil quality. The entire plant will be controlled by Danieli Automation systems, ensuring reliable operation, advanced process control, consistent product quality, and simplified maintenance. The contract was officially signed during a visit by GSM's management team to Danieli headquarters in Italy, marking the beginning of a long-term partnership between the two companies and laying the groundwork for future cooperation in steelmaking and downstream processing projects. The plant has been specifically engineered to achieve competitive production costs, reduced energy consumption, and superior finished-product quality while meeting the evolving requirements of the fast-growing East African steel market.
