TORONTO, April 3 /CNW/ - Cymat Corp. (TSX: CYM), an innovative materials
technology company, announced today that it has recently been granted
additional patent protection in Europe covering its proprietary Low Pressure
Foam Casting (LPFC(TM)) process. This process is used by Cymat and its
commercialization partners to produce Stabilized Aluminum Foam (SAF) near-net
shape components for the automotive sector.
As announced previously (January 25, 2005), the Company has been granted
a corresponding patent in the United States covering this fundamental
innovation in SAF manufacturing technology. Together, the patents provide
protection for Cymat's proprietary LPFC(TM) technology in both Europe and the
United States through the year 2022. This period exceeds by far the expiry of
Cymat's exclusive global license and patents covering the base SAF process
technology that was developed originally by Alcan and Norsk Hydro. This is
particularly significant because the patents extend by approximately 12 years
the period during which the Company can earn royalties and fees by licensing
its proprietary technology.
"We are extremely pleased with the issuance of the European patent
addressing this important advance in our SAF production technology," said Dr.
Paul A. Tichauer, Cymat's President and Chief Executive Officer. "Not only do
these patents extend by more than a decade the time period during which we can
earn licensing revenues in Europe and the USA, they also provide long-term
protection for an essential part of our core SAF technology - one that is key
to the cost-effective commercial production of aluminum foam components with
uniform and consistent cell structure. These material properties are critical
'must haves' to achieve 'buy in' for the use of SAF by the automotive
industry."
These patents cover SAF processing technology used to produce components
for several of Cymat's target automotive applications including crash boxes,
casting cores and reinforcement of vehicle structural members. Having met this
important technical milestone, the Company is now in a stronger position to
achieve commercial success with its proprietary SAF technology.

About Cymat

Cymat develops innovative materials for industry. The Company has
exclusive worldwide rights, through patents and licenses, for producing
Stabilized Aluminum Foam. The ultra-light metallic foam is manufactured by
injecting gas in a controlled manner into molten alloyed aluminum containing a
dispersion of fine ceramic particles and can be produced as either Near-net
Shapes or Flat Panels. The result is a new strategic material with a wide
array of benefits, including low cost per unit volume, good impact energy
absorption, good stiffness-to-weight ratio, thermal and acoustic insulation,
recyclability and low cost of production relative to other metallic foams.
Cymat is collaborating with a number of partners spanning the automotive,
transportation and construction industries. The Company's principal market
focus is automotive, where aluminum foam is ideally suited to the industry's
objectives to make vehicles safer, lighter and better for the environment. For
