Cymat Corp. Update - From Dr. Paul Tichauer Listing: TSX Symbol: CYM TORONTO, Nov. 10 /CNW/ - As president and CEO of Cymat, I'm pleased to present the first in a series of corporate updates. Our intention is that these reports become a regular feature of Cymat's communications with its stakeholders. This update reviews a significant advance Cymat has made in reducing the cost of the raw materials involved in producing our signature product, Stabilized Aluminum Foam, or SAF. SAF is produced by bubbling a gas into molten alloyed aluminum containing a dispersion of fine ceramic particles such as silicon carbide or aluminum oxide. The presence of these particles is essential to achieving the stability and uniformity of the cellular structure within the SAF that make it such a durable, lightweight and useful material. The ceramic particles are a major component of the material cost of SAF. For some time, we have known that if the volume of particles required to make SAF could be reduced, the overall cost of Cymat's products would be lower, making them cheaper for us to produce and more affordable for our customers to buy. Through a series of experiments, we have been able to reduce by 80% the ceramic particles content needed to make SAF. This in turn has yielded an overall reduction of more than 50% in the raw material cost for our SAF. What makes this development particularly remarkable is that, although we are now using significantly fewer ceramic particles than ever, the SAF that Cymat is producing exhibits no deterioration of material properties and, in fact, can now be made with a smaller, more uniform cell structure. The smaller cell structure also allows for finer detailing in the shape of parts produced with SAF. We believe that this advance provides us with the capability to produce a product with small enough cross section and thin enough profile to make it feasible, for example, to place a foam core inside a vehicle sun visor. Essentially, by reducing the ceramic content, Cymat has pioneered a product that costs less to produce than before, is stronger because the cells are smaller, is more adaptable, can be put to more uses, and is more affordable for our customers. This achievement is particularly important as our clients, especially those in the automotive sector, are under cost pressures. This makes SAF that much more desirable, accessible and closer to meeting our customers needs for use in the fabrication of their parts on a commercial scale. We're pleased to report this development and proud of the employees whose ingenuity led to this achievement. We think it will become yet one more compelling reason that Cymat's target customers in the automotive sector will want to utilize our aluminum foam products. Dr. Paul Tichauer President and CEO About Cymat Cymat develops innovative materials for industry. The company has exclusive worldwide rights, through patents and licenses, for producing Stabilized Aluminum Foam. The ultra-light metallic foam is manufactured by bubbling gas through molten alloyed aluminum containing a dispersion of fine ceramic particles and can be produced as either Near-net Shapes or Flat Panels. The result is a new strategic material with a wide array of benefits, including a good strength-to-weight ratio, mechanical energy absorption at low stress levels, thermal and acoustic insulation, recyclability and relatively low cost of production. Cymat is collaborating with a number of partners spanning the automotive, transportation and construction industries. The company's principal focus is on automotive, where aluminum foam is ideally suited to the industry's objectives to make vehicles lighter, safer and better for the environment.
