TSX Venture Exchange: ARI
TORONTO, Oct. 31 /CNW/ - Dr. David Young, President and CSO of ARIUS
Research Inc. (TSX-V: ARI), will give a talk on "Functional Anti-cancer
Antibodies - A New Age Now Begins" at the European Antibody Congress 2005,
October 31 to November 3, 2005 at the Hotel Sofitel Bellecour, Lyon, France.
Dr. Young has pioneered a functional approach to the discovery of anti-cancer
antibodies through ARIUS' unique FunctionFIRST(TM) platform. ARIUS antibodies
come from a pool that has been screened for the ability to kill or stop cancer
cells rather than a pool that was screened to bind to a specified target.
Dr. Young is scheduled to address the conference on Tuesday, November 1
at 16:45. He will review recent developments and successes in the use of
antibodies to treat a variety of cancers and discuss the various scientific
approaches to antibody discovery. The talk will include a description and
discussion of the benefits of the FunctionFIRST(TM) approach and a review of
the novel antibodies and targets it has produced.
ARIUS has entered into collaborations with other biopharma companies such
as Protein Design Labs and Oxford BioMedica based on the FunctionFIRST(TM)
platform. The company is pursuing additional partnerships to combine the
platform with methods of generating human antibodies as well as using it to
unlock mechanistic pathways and characterize novel epitopes or "hot spots" on
cancer targets.
About ARIUS Research
ARIUS Research Inc. is a biotechnology company dedicated to personalizing
cancer therapy through the discovery and development of novel anticancer
monoclonal antibodies (MAbs). Established in 1999, ARIUS has built a
proprietary technology platform, FunctionFIRST(TM), that rapidly identifies
powerful MAbs targeting a variety of cancer indications. This antibody
generation engine has enabled ARIUS to assemble a growing pipeline of over 300
functional MAbs, which may be used for commercial collaborations,
out-licensing or in-house development. ARIUS has ongoing licensing and
research partnerships with key biotechnology and drug development companies
that provide revenues and access to external technologies. The long-term
vision of ARIUS is to deliver personalized therapy by matching multiple
antibodies to the distinct antigenic characteristics of each patient's tumour
cells thereby increasing efficacy and avoiding side effects.
The European Antibody Congress
The European Antibody Congress brings strategy, know-how and ideas
together. The congress offers attendees a visionary keynote presentation,
presentations from industry leaders, a case study based program, and a master
class workshop program. The Congress runs from October 31 to November 3, 2005,
