Critical medicines and biosimilars - the priority of new investment projects at Antibiotice SA

This year, Antibiotice marks a new chapter in its strategic development by launching the project "INOVA a+ Research and Development Center and Critical Medicines Production", aimed at strengthening the company's position in the field of European pharmaceutical research and innovation. The investment represents an important step towards expanding product development and validation capacities, supporting Antibiotice's objective to deliver modern and competitive therapeutic solutions on national and international markets.

We remind you that, in November 2025, Antibiotice S.A. signed, together with the Ministry of Investments and European Projects (MIPE), the financing contract worth 75 million euros for the implementation of the project "INOVA a+ Research and Development Center and Critical Medicines Production", financed through the Health Program - Priority 9 (Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform - STEP) with a completion date of 2029.

The research component of the project is represented by a new Inova a+ Research Center, which will be built on the industrial platform in Iași. This modern center will allow the expansion and diversification of the portfolio of critical medicines produced in Romania, in accordance with European priorities in the field, consolidating 125 highly specialized jobs. The Inova a+ Center will integrate modern laboratories that will allow high-tech transfer to Romania. Antibiotice SA will address new research directions that will allow the development of biosimilar products used in the treatment of serious diseases, including in oncology therapies, sustainable synthesis of active substances through "green" processes and nanotechnology research for targeted drug therapies.

The STEP project includes, in addition to the research component, an investment in a modern production capacity for critical medicines in the form of sterile injectable beta-lactam powders divided into vials - a field in which Antibiotice has consolidated expertise and recognition at European level for over 70 years. By 2030, a production site for critical medicines in the form of sterile injectable powders will be built on the Iași platform, with a capacity of 100 million vials per year. The production from this new capacity will ensure both the need for critical medicines for hospitals in Romania and for healthcare systems at European level.
