AMAZON TEAMSTERS RALLY IN SUPPORT OF CHICAGO DELIVERY PROTECTION ACT

Bill to End Delivery Subcontracting in Chicago Gets Subject Matter Hearing in City Council

CHICAGO, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Amazon Teamsters and their allies rallied outside of Chicago City Hall to demand the Chicago City Council schedule a vote on the Delivery Protection Act before a Subject Matter Hearing between the License and Consumer Protection & Workforce Development committees.

Introduced by Alderwoman Julia Ramirez (D-12th Ward), the Delivery Protection Act would require delivery companies operating in Chicago to license their last-mile delivery facilities with the city and ban subcontracting practices used by companies like Amazon. Amazon utilizes a corrupt third-party subcontracting model called the "Delivery Service Partner" (DSP) program meant to suppress unionizing and shield Amazon from liability when accidents occur.

"The momentum to hold Amazon accountable is growing nationwide. Amazon Teamsters in Chicagoland are now taking the baton and showing Amazon that we will not stop," said Randy Korgan, Director of the Teamsters Amazon Division. "Amazon workers are sick and tired of the company's lies about their employment. The City Council must pass the Delivery Protection Act to protect Chicago neighborhoods and the thousands of delivery workers who make Chicago run."

"Companies like Amazon have transformed how we shop, but our laws haven't kept up with the rapid growth of the delivery industry," said Alderwoman Ramirez. "The convenience of same-day delivery cannot come at the expense of workers or the safety of our neighborhoods. That's why I ask my colleagues to support the Delivery Protection Act."

This bill follows the success of the Teamsters-backed Delivery Protection Act in New York City, which has received supermajority support from the New York City Council and Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The Teamsters Union calls on the Chicago City Council to pass the delivery reform legislation as soon as possible.

"When we saw the success of Amazon Teamsters with the Delivery Protection Act in New York, we were inspired to do the same thing in Chicago," said Melanie Perez, an Amazon Teamster from the DIL7 facility in Skokie, Illinois. "We can't hold Amazon accountable by sitting on the sidelines. I'm proud to join my fellow Amazon Teamsters in leading the fight to pass this critical bill in Chicago."
