Xiaomi working on self-developed smartphone chip

Xiaomi has officially announced that it will launch its first self-developed smartphone chip, the XRING 01, in late May 2025. The move marks an important milestone in the Chinese company's pursuit of greater control over its hardware and software integration.

The XRING 01 is an advanced mobile processor designed internally by Xiaomi and manufactured by TSMC using their 3-nanometer manufacturing process. Although Xiaomi has not yet released official specifications, leaked information and analysis suggest that the chip will have a 1+3+4 CPU configuration, for demanding tasks, for balanced performance and for energy efficiency.

While the XRING 01 may not yet be able to fully compete with the most powerful chips from Qualcomm and MediaTek, it allows Xiaomi to better optimize its products and differentiate itself in a competitive market.

With the development of the XRING 01, Xiaomi aims to reduce its dependence on third-party chip manufacturers such as Qualcomm and MediaTek. This initiative mirrors the strategies of competitors such as Apple and Huawei, who are designing their own chips to deliver better integrated and optimized products.

The XRING 01 is expected to debut in the upcoming Xiaomi 15S Pro smartphone, with which Xiaomi aims to strengthen its position in the premium segment of the smartphone market.
