Key takeaways

  • Xiaomi's AI team, MiMo, has developed the powerful open-source model Hunter Alpha.
  • The shift towards AI agents, capable of complex tasks with minimal human intervention, is accelerating across China.
  • The impressive capabilities of Hunter Alpha, including a huge context window and free access, have made it very popular among developers.

Xiaomi has confirmed through its AI team MiMo that the Hunter Alpha AI model is an internal test version from the company. This model recently appeared anonymously on developer platform OpenRouter and immediately caught the attention of the international AI community. Due to its impressive performance and the secrecy surrounding its launch, experts initially thought it was DeepSeek-V4, the expected successor to the cost-effective models of DeepSeek.

Shifting to AI agents

Xiaomi's announcement comes amid a surge in the use of open-source agent frameworks such as OpenClaw across China. MiMo's lead researcher Luo Fuli attributed this rapid shift in the AI landscape to the rapid transition from chatbots to more powerful AI agents, capable of performing complex tasks with minimal human intervention.

MiMo-V2-Pro, the flagship model underlying Hunter Alpha, is designed to act as the "brain" for these AI agents. It will be integrated with five major agent frameworks, including OpenClaw, and offers developers worldwide a week of free access. Following the announcement, Xiaomi's share price experienced a significant rise.

Impressive capabilities

Xiaomi owns a model with Hunter Alpha that combines a trillion parameters and a context window of a million tokens. Users praise the model for its ability to process and remember huge amounts of text. The combination of this large memory, strong reasoning ability and free access made the model instantly popular.

Such anonymous launches are commonplace in the AI sector. Developers test their systems on platforms such as OpenRouter to gather unbiased feedback from users. In the case of Hunter Alpha, the numbers confirm its success. With a consumption of over a trillion tokens and a top position in the rankings, the model has proven itself in the market in a short time.
