(TSX: WEF) advises that several Canadian newspapers have incorrectly reported the amount of softwood lumber countervailing and anti-dumping duty deposits that have been paid by the Company. As disclosed in the Company's Consolidated Financial Statements for the year ended December 31, 2005 and in its Annual Information Form, both of which have been filed on SEDAR, the Company and its Predecessor have paid US$104.2 million in cash deposits since May 22, 2002. Under the terms of its proposed acquisition of Cascadia Forest Products Ltd., Western is not entitled to any refunds of softwood lumber countervailing and anti-dumping duty deposits attributable to the period prior to the closing date. Western Forest Products Western is an integrated Canadian forest products company and currently the second largest coastal woodland operator in British Columbia. Principal activities conducted by Western and its subsidiaries include timber harvesting, reforestation, sawmilling logs into lumber and wood chips, and value-added remanufacturing.
