Australian graphite producer Volt Resources (ASX:VRC) has signed a binding term sheet with the Unbounded Opportunities Fund (UOF) to support the next phase of development at its Bunyu graphite project in southern Tanzania , according to an ASX filing. Volt said the agreement establishes a framework for staged project financing, subject to due diligence and final documentation. Neither the size of UOF’s intended commitment nor the specific conditions for drawdown have been disclosed, with the company noting that further details will be provided once definitive agreements are finalised. The Bunyu resource, which Volt describes as Tanzania’s largest JORC-reported graphite deposit, contains measured, indicated and inferred resources across multiple zones. Independent comparisons vary depending on whether deposits are ranked by contained graphite, ore tonnage or resource category. The project benefits from access to established infrastructure, including sealed roads through the site and a transport corridor leading to the deep-water Port of Mtwara approximately 140km away, a competitive advantage relative to other East African graphite projects. Volt is positioning Bunyu as a long-life, scalable operation capable of supplying raw graphite to battery, industrial and electric-vehicle supply chains. However, downstream processing ambitions remain contingent on securing project finance, offtake agreements and future market conditions. The company has emphasised growing international interest in diversifying graphite supply chains away from China , which dominates both mining and processing capacity. The Bunyu project remains in the development and financing phase rather than construction, with Volt focusing on feasibility enhancements, regulatory engagement and early works planning. The Tanzanian government has highlighted the broader potential of critical minerals projects to support economic diversification, though no specific state-backed financing package for Bunyu has been announced.
