Tubos Reunidos has strengthened its position in the global nuclear supply chain through its participation in the Gorakhpur Nuclear Power Plant (GHAVP), one of India's most important energy infrastructure projects currently under construction. The Spanish manufacturer has supplied 160 tonnes of seamless stainless steel tubes for the plant's most safety-critical systems, contributing essential components to a project that is central to India's long-term strategy of expanding low-carbon electricity generation.
The contract reflects Tubos Reunidos' expertise in manufacturing high-performance tubular solutions for industries where quality, reliability and full traceability are fundamental requirements. Nuclear facilities demand components capable of operating safely for decades under extreme temperatures, high pressures and corrosive environments, making material selection and manufacturing precision critical to the overall integrity of the plant.
A Strategic supply for one of India's largest nuclear projects
The Gorakhpur Nuclear Power Plant, officially known as the Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP), is being developed by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) in the Fatehabad district of Haryana. Once completed, the facility will have a total installed capacity of 2,800 MW, generated by four indigenous 700 MWe Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs). The project represents a major investment in India's nuclear energy programme, which aims to increase the share of reliable, low-carbon electricity within the country's rapidly expanding power system.
Tubos Reunidos' contribution focuses on supplying seamless stainless steel tubes for systems classified among the highest safety categories within the plant. These components are used in applications where long-term mechanical integrity and corrosion resistance are essential to ensuring safe and continuous operation. Unlike conventional industrial tubing, nuclear-grade products must comply with rigorous technical specifications covering metallurgy, dimensional accuracy, mechanical properties and non-destructive testing. Every stage of production is subject to strict quality controls to guarantee complete traceability and compliance with international nuclear standards.
Supporting india's long-term nuclear energy strategy
India continues to experience sustained growth in electricity demand driven by industrialisation, urbanisation and population growth. To ensure energy security while reducing dependence on fossil fuels, the government has adopted a diversified strategy that combines renewable energy with an expansion of nuclear generation. In this context, GHAVP is one of the country's flagship nuclear developments and forms part of a broader programme to deploy additional indigenous PHWR reactors across India.
The four 700 MWe reactors planned for the site incorporate technology developed domestically and are designed to deliver reliable baseload electricity over an operational life of several decades. Unlike intermittent renewable sources such as solar and wind, nuclear power plants provide continuous electricity generation regardless of weather conditions, making them a key element in maintaining grid stability while supporting India's decarbonisation objectives.
